Part6: Bukidnon-CDO-Iligan-Camiguin Trip Day2 - Lechon, Macaraeg-Macapagal Ancestral House and Tinago Fallls in Iligan City

After enjoying the great Maria Cristina Falls, it's time for lunch! We were very hungry so we decided to proceed around Timoga spring pools. Just ride a jeep from Ma. Cristina Falls, ask the driver to drop you off  at Timoga spring pools. It's roughly around 2-4 minutes away from it.  We hired a habal-habal driver which is your other transportation option too,  we texted him to pick us up from Ma. Cristina falls.

Lechon for Lunch in Iligan

I've once mesmerized when Kris Aquino (Filipino showbiz actress) told that lechon in Iligan is one of the best lechon she has ever tasted. From curiousity, lead to possibility. There are several lechon houses infront of Timoga spring pools.  Lechon houses here are more of nipa hut style at the beach shore.   We ordered half kilo of it which is really too much for us. Nonetheless, we can still eat this for afternoon snack hehe!

Not sure if other countries has it, but for your information, lechon is a roasted pig served during special occasions. Lechon manok (roasted chicken) is also available here. I also love the concept of their rice. At first, I thought it was 'suman' (native rice cake). Unlike from the normal rice, it is being cooked from palm/banana leaves.  Very portable rice as you can eat it even without a plate. Truly smart!!

Portable rice. Cut into two, then eat it.

Macapagal-Macaraeg Ancestral House

Beside the Timoga Spring Pools, is the Macaraeg-Macapagal Ancestral House. This is considered historical as two of Philippines' Presidents resided in this house  - Disodado and Gloria Macapagal.  As per kuya Jun (our habal-habal driver) it was really a long time when GMA (previous president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo) visited their ancestral house.

Nothing much to see, we just took a picture then proceed to Tinago Falls

Tinago Falls

Tinago Falls is one of the best tourist attraction in Iligan City.  Tinago is a Filipino word for 'hidden'.  A hidden treasure in Iligan, you can reach this by going down, trekking on a 400-500 descending steps.

one of our camera shy guide while walking to the falls

The walk all the way down is all worth it once you see how lovely this falls is. We have two young guides, so camera shy but once we arrived at the falls, they seem to be enjoying it the most. They tried to go up and jumped few times which unfortunately we could not do hehehe.  It is cold and deep, and the cascading water from the falls is so high with too much pressure that we couldn't go at the heart of falls ourselves.

It's a bit frustrating that half of Tinago is owned by someone. They have their so-called mini-resort around it, where you have to pay Php10 fee once you cross the boundary.  The other half is public with one man guarding, maintaining and cleaning the place.    So you may really call this hinati falls (divided) as well hehe.  Guys,  please please! Put you garbage in trash cans. I was actually furious with this girl who just threw their softdrink bottle anywhere where in fact she was beside the trash can! Please... let's keep this a beauty. :)

How To Reach Tinago Falls?

Tinago falls can be reached by riding a habal-habal / motorcycle.  As long as you reach Iligan, ask around where to ride jeepneys with 'Buru-un' signage.  Ask them to drop you off at habal-habal drivers, and once you're here, tell them that you would like to visit Tinago Falls.

Fees:
Entrance to Tinago Falls - Php 10
Lifevest rental - Php 20 each
Ride to the falls on a bamboo raft - Php 10.00
Habal-habal fee - Php 50/pax one-way (or negotiable)

OPTIONAL: You can also have a sidetrip to Mimbalut Falls which is along the way before Tinago Falls. A zipline is also operating at Mimbalut Falls. :)

Heard a lot of this falls. And, indeed it is really beautiful, hope to visit here someday. Is it safe in going there? Are there tour guides while hiking?

this is safe. I guess like every other falls just be careful and watch your step as it is slippery and wet. We have our tour guides (highschool kids) when we visited Tinago falls.
